School District and Aspen Grove golf course strike tentative land deal

Two sides announce deal that will see new middle school built on golf course lands

The Central Okanagan School District and Aspen Grove Golf Course have announced a tentative agreement to purchase the golf course lands for a future middle school site.

The 18 acre site is located beside George Elliot Secondary School which is adjacent to the District of Lake Country town centre.

The School District is planning to build a new middle school on the northern section of the George Elliot Secondary School site and establish new playfields and other public amenities on the golf course site to support a future middle school and the existing secondary school. The property is currently zoned to support the future planned playfields but will require approval of the Agricultural Land Commission to use the land for the School District’s intended purposes.

The continued growth in the District of Lake Country has resulted in a need for additional educational facilities in the area. A new 500 student middle school in the District of Lake Country is fourth from the top on the list of immediate capital needs identified by the School District.

Construction of the middle school is not expected to occur for at least three years. Therefore, Aspen Grove Golf Course Ltd. has agreed to leaseback the golf course property to ensure the residents of Lake Country can continue to enjoy the existing amenities until funding for a new middle school is approved by the Ministry of Education
