A rock slide that took place just after midnight has closed Green Lake Road in Okanagan Falls Sunday. A detour in effect through White Lake Road and Willowbrook Rd. The next update on the slide will be today, May 21 at 2 p.m.

In January another rock slide in that area closed Green Lake Road for the day while they cleaned up the debris.

In March 2018, an 81-year-old man was killed after a rock slide crashed into his house on Green Lake Road. It is believed the homeowner had been outside when he was struck by the falling boulder, said police at the time.

Green Lake Road is just off Highway 97 but the rockslide doesn’t impact traffic on the highway.

Meanwhile, traffic on Highway 97 in Summerland is severely impacted by a slide that covered that road in early May.

Ministry of Transportation has determined that the slope is still unstable and will require a retaining wall. Single lane alternating traffic will continue at the site at Lakeshore Drive S.

Interminent closures of the highway will continue after the long weekend is over, said the Ministry.
