A fundraiser in support of BrainTrust Canada, the 3rd Annual Pihl Law Paddle for Prevention is set for Sunday, Aug. 13th at Kelowna’s Rotary Beach.
At the heart of the event are team relays, where teams of four colleagues, friends, or family members participate in relays on Okanagan Lake, with all funds raised going toward brain injury prevention, education, and support for individuals with brain injury in the Okanagan.
Registration includes the use of a board, paddle, and personal flotation device supplied by the Kelowna Paddle Centre, swag bag, and barbecue lunch courtesy of COSTCO and Kelowna Sunrise Rotary Club.
Participants have the chance to win fundraising prizes including a round trip for two anywhere WestJet flies, an inflatable stand-up paddle board donated by COSTCO and a Samsung Galaxy tablet courtesy of TELUS, as well as draw prizes throughout the day. Paddlers who sign up by July 17 will also be entered into a special draw for an inflatable paddleboard donated by COSTCO.
Paddlers will also have the opportunity to receive a standup paddleboard lesson at a discounted rate at the Kelowna Paddle Centre.

BrainTrust Canada and Title Sponsor, Pihl Law Corporation encourage participants to stand up and paddle for someone they know who has experienced a brain injury through a motor vehicle accident, fall, sports injury, or other circumstance. “With our firm’s involvement in personal injury law we see how dramatically brain injury can change the life of an individual and their loved ones in an instant,” says Sean Pihl, partner at Pihl Law. “We support the important work that BrainTrust does to prevent brain injury and assist those who have been affected.” Sean Pihl will be the official MC for the event, with Ron Cannan as the “Race MC” providing color commentary during the races.
“Whether you have a grudge match to settle or are a first-time participant, this is going to be a memorable event,” says Magda Kapp, Director of Communications & Prevention Services for BrainTrust. “We are encouraging participants to come out in costume and be ready for a fun and friendly competition! With brain injury’s prevalence, we know that everyone knows someone who has sustained brain injury through a motor vehicle crash, fall, sports concussion, tumor, aneurysm, near drowning or otherwise, and we are encouraging participants to share their messages on Facebook – facebook.com/braintrustcanada or Twitter with #whoare youpaddlingfor “.
