Despite council’s go ahead, the old washrooms at Riverside Park will be demolished now that their replacements are open.
Prep work for the demolition is scheduled to begin on May 24, and the actual demolition will be on May 29.
The old washrooms have been replaced by new, accessible washrooms which are now open for business.
A proposal that was approved by city council on Jan. 17 would have the old facility and its 0.1 acre of land be added to the land leased by LocoLanding Adventure Park.
The proposal would have seen LocoLanding take over the maintenance, repairs and any future demolition costs for the washroom building.
According to the May 23 announcement, that proposal was scrapped after further review despite approval from council.
That puts the demolition costs onto the city, which according to information shared by the city in January, will cost between $15,000 and $20,000.
