Don’t expect to find Amanda Zais visiting any of the local wineries this February.

The Kelowna resident is set to take on the BC Cancer Foundation’s Lose the Booze fundraiser next month. Participants go alcohol-free for 28 days while fundraising in support of cancer research and enhancements to patient care.

Participants can be a team with friends and family or can choose to fundraise solo.

Zais says that the drink she will miss the most is an Okanagan favourite.

“(I will miss) The fabulous Okanagan wines,” Zais said in a press release. “We have an abundance of incredible wineries here.”

“Supporting cancer research is extremely meaningful to me – we all have someone we love who is affected by this life-changing illness,” Zais said. “I am happy to lend my support in keeping our loved ones with us longer, and to encourage leading a healthy lifestyle at the same time. It’s incredibly important to me.”

Over the past four years, Lose the Booze has raised over $240,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation.

With one in two British Columbians facing a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, support from Lose the Booze has helped fuel research and improve care for people facing this disease.
