Evacuation alert being assessed

Some Spallumcheen residents should know Friday morning if they can stand down after a wildfire broke out near their homes.

Officials will be meeting to discuss the wildfire that was tackled near Hutley Road Thursday afternoon and evening.

“Should there be no changes to the status of the interface wildfire situation and/or the evacuation alert notice, the next press release will be issued at 9 a.m. Friday,” states the township.

An evacuation alert was issued for the following areas:

Twin Firs Mobile Home Park

Eagle Rock Mobile Home Park

Belva’s Mobile Home Park

Meadow Ridge Mobile Home Park

McLennan Road

Keddleston Road

To ensure the safety of local residents and members of the fire crew, Hutley Road south is closed to all traffic until further notice. Hutley Road north and Head Road continue to be local traffic only. RCMP patrols will be in the area.

As of Thursday night, the fire was about four hectares in size and a fire watch was on site overnight.
