Controversial Greenspace clean-up begins today in Lake Country

City crews and volunteers will be out on the Greenspace beginning to remove private property from public land

Crews will be starting work on the removal of private unapproved structures along the beach area in the Okanagan Centre Greenspace today and over the next few days.

While the trail and beach will not be closed to the pulbic, the District of Lake Country is asking that the public respect the actions of the crews and do not enter the work zones cordoned off with yellow caution tape, or walk near the equipment or work trucks on the roadway.

Some equipment will be in use and entering work zones could result in accidents and harm for the public or employees and the DLC wants to ensure the work is carried out with little to no risk of injury.

The removal of public structures like boathouses as well as things like chairs and boats has become a controversial issue in Lake Country.

Some residents have formed in opposition to the plan while council has maintained that the structures are stopping some members of the public from using the five kilometre trail.
