1 dead from crash on Trans-Canada Highway outside Revelstoke

One person has died following a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway 1 that closed the road on Wednesday night.

According to Revelstoke RCMP, the incident involving a semi truck and sedan occurred after 9:40 p.m. on Nov. 29. RCMP responded to the incident and have released some information about the crash.

The incident happend roughly five kilometres outside Revelstoke. When the RCMP arrived on scene, they found a sedan-style vehicle engulfed in flames and a semi-truck off of the road.

One occupant of the vehicle was found dead at the scene and the injured truck driver was transported to the Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke.

The RCMP Collision Analyst and BC Coroners Service were on scene, but the cause of the incident has yet to be determined. An investigation into the incident is still underway, according to Revelstoke RCMP Sgt. Chris Dodds.

“It is believed the eastbound sedan crossed the center line and struck the transport truck,” said Sgt. Dodds in a press release.

The names of the victims have not been released yet as they are working to notify the next of kin of the victims.
