Okanagan College Coyotes split opening weekend against Vancouver Island

The Okanagan College Coyotes are 2-2 to begin the Canadian College Baseball Conference (CCBC) season.

Welcoming the Vancouver Island University Mariners to town, the Coyotes won 10-5 and 3-0 on Saturday, Mar. 30 but fell 14-4 and 9-4 on Sunday, Mar. 31.

Outfielder Ryan Dousett had a big opening weekend for the Coyotes as he’s second in the league with a .600 batting average (9/15). One of his hits was a double and he added four RBIs, three walks, and four stolen bases in the four game series.

Pitcher Teagen Ribbink was dominant in the team’s 3-0 win, throwing a complete game shutout with six hits, nine strikeouts, and two walks.

This upcoming weekend, the Coyotes welcome Edmonton Collegiate to Elks Stadium for a four-game series. They two teams play at 6 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 5, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 6, and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 7.
