Residents of the Central Okanagan will be reaching for their sunglasses this week.

The Environment Canada Forecast for the Kelowna region predicts that temperatures will peak at 30 C by the weekend, after a week of sunny skies.

Monday May 6, will see a high of 17 C and a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per-cent chance of showers in the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to steadily rise from Tuesday May 7, until Friday May 10, from 18C to 26C.

A beach day may be in the forecast for the weekend with temperatures expected to rise to 30 C and 27 C on Saturday and Sunday.

The UV index will be approximately 5, which is considered moderate.
