Summer Arts Scene For Youth in Central Okanagan Society (SASFY), a non profit arts organization is hosting its second annual summer arts school August 8-13, 2011 right here in Lake Country at the ideal, modern and well-equipped state of the art George Elliot Secondary School and Creekside Theatre. This year, as an extra convenience for parents and students, a West Kelowna/Kelowna school shuttle bus service will provide transportation. The “Ignite the Passion in the Arts” workshops program, a unique inter-connection of the arts educational opportunity of excellence for youth primarily ages 9-15, is already in place with registration open for enrolment.
After a very successful August 2010 inaugural year and the continuing support from Superintendent Hugh Gloster, School District No. 23, George Elliot Secondary School, Creekside Theatre and the District & Council of Lake Country, Summer Arts Scene For Youth is ready to welcome local students from across the Okanagan and visiting youth participants from outside the Valley.
The outstanding and exclusive Okanagan faculty team, comprised of 14 professional artists, teachers and performers, many with national and some with international experience, is keen to share a wealth of talents and knowledge with youth and give back excellence to the community. An awesome and diverse variety of workshops is being offered and students have the wonderful opportunity to choose one favorite workshop from each of the following three segments:
1) animation, mixed media, wood working, piano
2) creative dance, guitar, photography, fashion design
3) voice/musical theatre, painting, hip hop, culinary arts.
The SASFY Board of Directors is operated exclusively by a passionate group of local volunteers who are committed to promote arts excellence in our community. It has been working very hard to create an exceptional all round 6 day summer arts school workshops program for the amazing value of only $150.00. The base tuition fee includes West Kelowna/Kelowna shuttle bus service, all snacks and lunches along with six hours of professional instruction from Monday to Friday with a culminating Saturday afternoon Arts Gala Extravaganza exhibition and concert on this year’s theme “Kaleidoscope.”
Early registration, to secure first choice workshops in each of the three segments, is highly recommended to avoid disappointment. To ensure top quality instruction, space is limited due to class size restrictions.
For a fun, exciting and creative summer arts experience for youth, the SASFY summer arts school is the best place to be August 8-13, 2011. For more information and details on how to register, see www.sasfy.ca , email info@sasfy.ca or call 250-768-1404.
