Get ready for a busier-than-usual Saturday morning on Penticton’s Main Street, because there’s more than just one market coming to the city’s downtown core this Victoria Day weekend.

The Downtown Community Market opens for the season on May 18, bringing 80 vendors next door to the Penticton Farmers’ Market, which held its first event of 2024 last month.

Running every Saturday until Sept. 7, the downtown market showcases artisans, creators and makers of everything from homemade goods to clothing and jewelry, antiques and furniture.

The event is held from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and also features live music and food trucks.

To kick off the season for music, the market will feature Dixie Fried Hep Katz, a talented trio specializing in traditional and original Rockabilly music.

Anyone in the area should be aware of road closures every Saturday between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Main Street between Wade Avenue and Lakeshore Drive, as well as on sections of Front Street, Backstreet Boulevard and Nanaimo Avenue.

The event is hosted by the Downtown Penticton Business Improvement Association and can be found just north of the farmers’ market, which runs in the 100 block of Main Street.

This Saturday also marks the opening of a bike parking valet service. It will be operated by the city in Gyro Park free of charge every Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
