Revelstoke student places third, national motocross competition

The championship event took place from August 7-11 in Walton, Ontario

A Revelstoke Secondary School Grade 12 student, Liam Dodds has an enormously successful showing at the Canadian National Amateur Motocross Championship this summer.

The championship event took place from August 7-11 in Walton, Ontario. The five-day national race attracts riders from across Canada and the USA as the renowned event is considered to be the peak of the Canadian racing season.

Dodds began motocross racing at the age of seven and has competed in multiple B.C. amateur motocross championships, he is also a former multi-time Canadian Arenacross champion.

In 2023, Dodds finished seventh and was hopeful going into the 2024 championship that he would improve upon this result, and that's exactly what he did. Dodds finished the week by placing third overall in his main class, open intermediate. Dodds competed against the best intermediate motocross rider in the country.

The Grad 12 student also placed sixth overall in the 250cc Schoolboy class, and seventh overall in the 250cc intermediate class. All of these impressive finishes led to Dodds receiving the prestigious Yamaha Factory Ride Award at the 2024 Nationals. The award is given to a rider with the most cumulative points at the national championships. The award comes with complimentary use of a 2025 Yamaha bike and a $2500 Yamaha credit.

“I have been working hard all year to achieve these results at Nationals and was able to top it all off with winning the Yamaha Factory Ride award, was an incredible experience...I was very honoured to win the Yamaha award," said Dodds.

Other accolades have included a 26th overall finish in the 250cc class in 2024. After graduating from high school in 2025, Dodds plans on becoming a full-time, professional racer with his sights set on the Triple Crown Series.

For those looking to check out Dodds' racing skills, they can see him compete in round six of the Future West BC Motocross series. The series takes place on September 7 and 8 on Westride Road. More information about the race can be found on Future West BC's website.

Dodds will battle for another provincial championship and is appreciative of all those who come out to cheer him on.
