A girls soccer team in Keremeos has booked its spot in a B.C.-wide tournament.

The Similkameen Elementary Secondary’s senior girls’ soccer team is among the 16 squads that have qualified for this year’s provincial championships, set for May 31 to June 2 in Surrey.

The team is composed of Grade 8 to 12 girls and finished fourth at the recent Valley Championships, a showing that earned them their spot in the provincials.

In its four games at the tournament, SES’ girls team went 2-2, using victories against the Kamloops School of Arts and Clearwater to punch their ticket onwards.

“We had a great season,” said the team’s coach Mario Carelse. “We’re quite proud of finishing second at the eight-team tournament in Merritt at the end of April and qualifying for provincials.”

This year’s provincials will be held at Southridge School in South Surrey and the South Surrey Athletic Fields. The team will leave on May 30.

In 2022, the school SES finished as the top public school at the B.C. provincials.

“This year we hope to repeat that accomplishment, or better,” Carelse added.
