Letter: Gov't 'a great financial milking machine'

For seniors like me, you wind up in a mobile home with an old truck and a pension that doesn't cover your living needs.

To the editor:

There is an illness in our country. It never used to be there.

Narcissism seems to be infested in every aspect of government and business.

There was a day when you could vote for a serious-minded person, one that wanted to run the country and not your life.

I am a baby boomer, born in the 1940s, raised with empathy.

This new world is very frustrating for me and I'm sure for many others.

I believe government, all aspects of it, have forgotten where the money comes from.

I hope the next generation has the same drive, integrity and stamina that we had, for the load is getting heavy.

In my time, we have gone through countless recessions, fought through sudden high interest rates, struggled to keep our houses that at one time were financially achievable to own.

When the people are broke, there is a recession. Nothing else causes it.

I live in Kelowna, lowest wage city I know of. And still the bean counters don't get it.

After 60 years of paying bills, one feels like there is a great financial milking machine created today. It is attached to every financial artery you have.

For seniors like me, you wind up in a small, inexpensive mobile home with an old truck and a pension that doesn't cover your living needs.

I guess we're just not that important.
