It's another snow day in the Central Okanagan School District.
Weather conditions have improved as the snow stopped falling but, as school officials pointed out in a statement, the accumulation of snow on less frequently tread pathways has made it unsafe to open schools today.
"Maintenance crews and contractors providing snow removal services have informed us that most side streets and sidewalks have not been plowed and many remain unsafe for either vehicular or pedestrian traffic," reads the statement on the SD23 website.
"Our hope is that with more favorable weather forecasted for today, crews will be able to catch up with the large amount of snow removal that has to happen so that students can walk safely to school and most buses will be able to operate."
In other areas of education, Okanagan College has also struggled to keep up with Mother Nature.
At OC's Kelowna campus, the Penno and Acland Road facilities will be closed until noon Tuesday to allow for snow removal. They ask students to watch for updates about afternoon and evening opening. Staff and students are asked to avoid campus until determination is made to open.
UBC Okanagan is open for business, but they are offering assurances that those who can't make it in won't be penalized.
"We appreciate that conditions will vary throughout the region and not everyone will be able to make it to class. Faculty and administrators are asked to accommodate the needs of those who cannot attend today," read a release from the university.
