The BC Lions are speaking out against sexual abuse.
Called “Be More Than A Bystander,” the initiative aims to increase understanding and awareness about sexual violence provincewide.
“(It’s) not only to spread awareness but to promote the men to step up and change our conversation,” said Lions fullback Rolly Lumbala.
“Can you think of three women in your life that you love and care for? The stats are one in three will be sexually assaulted,” he said.
Kelowna Secondary School students, the KSS football team, and college students listened as players Eric Fraser and Lumbala spoke at Okanagan College about defining and preventing sexual assault, Feb. 22.
“It’s to use our platform for something good,” said Lumbala.
Every six days a woman is murdered in Canada, said executive director of the Elizabeth Fry Society Michelle Novakowski.
The project is between EVA BC and the BC Lions.
