UPDATE: RCMP standoff in Rutland a false alarm

UPDATE: 1:20 p.m.

Kelowna RCMP issued a release at the conclusion of this event.

RCMP said they responded to a report of a disturbance inside a home in the 500 block of Mackenzie Road. Officers were told that an individual inside the residence was brandishing  an edged weapon in a threatening manner.

For both public safety and the safety of those officers at the scene a decision was made by the RCMP to shut down a portion of Highway 33 and fully contain all sides of the home.

Police say As many as 12 individuals exited the home and were cooperative when called out by RCMP. Those individuals were questioned by police, however many were not fully cooperative with the investigation.

Officers later entered and cleared the residence. Police have determined that no one inside the home had sustained any injuries.

The investigation into the initial report is ongoing at this time. Highway 33 has since been re-opened.

UPDATE: 12:45 p.m.

RCMP on scene have informed the Cap News that they rushed to the scene after they received a report of a man with knife threatening people inside a home at McKenzie Road and Muir Road.

Due to the report, police approached the home with guns drawn and removed eight to 10 people from the home.

Police on scene say it was a false report and after questioning all involved the incident has been resolved.

All occupants of the home were allowed to return.

RCMP have surrounded Highway 33 and Muir Road Saturday afternoon in an apparent standoff, arresting at least one man.

Police are on scene with guns drawn around a home on nearby McKenzie road, while Highway 33 heading into Kelowna was shut down near Muir.

At least eight people were witnessed being removed from the house, one was arrested while the others stood nearby.

RCMP still have guns drawn on the house.
