Power restored to thousands on west side of Okanagan Lake

The outage was caused by a faulty substation

UPDATE: 1:55 p.m.

Power has been restored to BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland.

However, 36 BC Hydro customers west of Westside Road remain in the dark due to a power pole fire that sparked sometime before 9 a.m.

It’s unclear when power will be restored to the Break Lake Main Road area.

This is the second time in a week that BC Hydro customers on the west side of Okanagan Lake have had service disrupted.

On July 5, almost 15,000 customers were without power for several hours. It is unclear what caused that outage.

A faulty substation caused the outage for West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland just after 1 p.m.

The outage is impacting over 12,500 customers.

Crews are said to be on scene and power should be restored shortly.
