Ellison Park wildfire being held less than 2 hours after discovery

The fire is estimated at one hectare

Update 2:30 p.m.

The blaze in Ellison Provincial Park is already being held.

The wildfire sparked around 12:30 p.m. Sunday (July 9), but fast action from firefighters means it’s not likely to spread.

The fire is estimated at 0.6 hectares.

The cause is under investigation.

Update 2:15 p.m.

A wildfire has sparked in Ellison Provincial Park and RCMP are currently evacuating the area.

Vernon Fire Rescue, BX Swan Lake Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service are responding to the blaze.

The fire is one hectare in size.

Original 1 p.m.

Several people have taken to social media to report smoke in the area of Ellison Provincial Park.

The blaze has not yet been confirmed by BC Wildfire Service.

More information will be provided as it becomes available.
