Plans are in the works for changes to the property next to the fairgrounds where the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society’s office building sits.
A motion was released from a May 23 in camera meeting of council at council’s June 12 meeting.
The motion was that council authorize the request from the Salmon Arm Folk Music Society (SAFMS) to construct improvements on the city-owned property at 541 3rd St. SW, subject to building permit approval.
A letter from the society to council described a plan to pursue two construction projects on the property. One is a new detached storage/works building, while the other is adding seven rooms (four top and three bottom floor) to the building on the property currently used for an office.
Preliminary plans from architect Berndt Hermanski’s firm describe an addition to the back of the building which includes six new offices and a storage room.
The society letter said that in the past seven years, SAFMS has invested to improve the property and it plans to spend up to $225,000 of internal funds on the project.
Additional funding, $221,250, to complete the project has been provided by the BC Arts Infrastructure grant program.
The provincial funding requires the project to be completed by the end of 2025.
