About 1:30 p.m. a dog walker reported hearing shots in the hills south of Kelowna well above The Ponds subdivision in the Okanagan Mission.
An unconfirmed source says the man may have heard as many as 80 shots, possibly from an automatic weapon.
RCMP are scouring the rough terrain of the hillsides widely used by hikers and mountain bikers.
