A pedestrian was treated in hospital after being struck by a car on the highway Monday evening in Peachland.
At approximately 6 p.m. last night emergency crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being hit in the southbound lanes of Highway 97 near Clements Crescent in Peachland. According to witnesses at the scene, the pedestrian had exited his vehicle, parked along the shoulder of the northbound lanes and was crossing the undivided highway on foot when he was struck by the southbound Toyota Corolla.
“According to investigative reports from the scene, the northbound lanes of the highway were empty and southbound traffic was slowing or stopped for a red light at the nearby intersection,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“The pedestrian crossed at an uncontrolled portion of the highway, and reportedly emerged from between stationary vehicles when he was struck by the Toyota now moving forward in the right hand turn lane.”
The 59-year-old Kamloops man was transported by BC Ambulance Service to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was later released from hospital care.

The driver, a Peachland woman in her 60’s, was visibly shaken by the incident. She remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the police investigation. Her vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.
