Oyama Road closed because of downed power line

Incident occurred after a large bird flew into the electrical line

Oyama Road is currently blocked due to a downed power line but repair crews are on scene.

The Lake Country RCMP received a report of a downed power line on Oyama Road, at Highway 97, at about 10 a.m.

“Apparently, a large predatory bird gripping a fish was seen flying into the cable which caused the line to break,” said Cst. Kris Clark, with the RCMP.

“The live wires arced while on the ground and started a small grass fire which has since burned itself out.”

Police have blocked the road for public safety reasons and repair crews are on scene.

“The repairs are expected to be completed within the hour and in the meantime, it is advised to avoid the area,” said Clark.
