The work of Oliver’s deputy fire chief has been recognized on a province-wide scale.
Byron Somerville was presented with an award for his 25 years of service at the Oliver Fire Department.
The deputy chief was surprised with the medal, courtesy of the B.C. government, from Oliver fire chief Bob Graham during the department’s regular practice on May 18.
“As always, a person who has committed their time to anything for that period of time is always appreciated,” said Capt. Rob Graham said. “Bryon has had a very successful time with us and we look forward to many more years of service.”
The award, known as the B.C. Long Service Medal, is presented to those who have dedicated at least 25 years of service in a community/structure fire department.
