A Coldstream resident is pumped about a prize that will fuel him through the year.
Allan Luelo won free gas for a year through a Petro-Canada contest after filling up his Toyota Echo at the station on 43rd Street and 25th Avenue last month.
Being a Canada-wide contest, he never dreamed he’d win.
“You never expect anything,” he said of lottery and such contests.
“I never win anything,” said Luelo. “I might win $10 on the lottery.”
In fact, the retired federal government employee, who now cleans Kal Beach, is one of just two B.C. winners in the summer contest, which celebrated Canada’s 150th birthday with 150 prizes of free gas for a year.
While he doesn’t have to go far for work anymore, the 60-year-old has seven kids therefore he goes through a lot of fuel.
“It usually costs us about $400 a month for gas because there’s kids involved and all the running around,” said Luelo, whose oldest is 39 and youngest (twins) are almost 15. “So every little bit helps.”
Plus his wife, who drives to Kelowna for work, is eager to take advantage of Luelo’s winnings.
“She said, ‘I want some of those (gift) cards,’” said Luelo of his wife’s response to the big news.
Even the store clerk at the Okanagan Landing store was pumped on Luelo’s win.
“She was excited and happy for me because she sees me all the time because I’m a regular customer.”
