New West man in custody after police chase overnight through Lake Country

After 7-11 was robbed, Lake Country cops pursue vehicle through Lake Country before putting it in the ditch and making arrest

A 40-year-old man from New Westminster is facing potential charges after a convenience store was robbed at gun point early Wednesday morning, Jan. 21, in Lake Country.

The Lake Country RCMP responded to an armed robbery at the 7 Eleven Convenience Store located on Highway 97 just before 3 a.m. Wednesday. A lone masked male suspect reportedly entered the store brandishing a rifle and demanded cash, lottery tickets, and cigarettes. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle with an undisclosed amount of cash and stolen goods.

No one was injured during the incident.

A dark Pontiac G6 was spotted by police driving at a high rate of speed northbound on Glenmore Road and investigators initiated a pursuit. The driver continued northbound, eventually making his way onto the Pelmewash Parkway, with officers close behind. Just South of Oyama, when the suspect attempted a u-turn and had slowed significantly, police seized the opportunity to end the pursuit by forcing his vehicle into the ditch. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, and police recovered the stolen cash and property.

A 40-year-old man from New Westminster is facing potential charges ofarmed robbery, disguise with intent, flight from police, obstruction and resist arrest. He remains in custody and was expected to appear in Court on January 21, 2015.
