Residents of Lake Country took to their bicycles in big numbers last week as part of the annual Bike to Work and School Week.
To kick off the week, the Lake Country Fire Department crew from Oyama escorted the Oyama Traditional School students from Oyama General Store to school.
Firefighter Matthew Salmon decided to ride his bike in full turnout gear with his young daughters as part of the celebration. A number of municipal staff as well as others in the community, jumped on their bikes to take the commute to work on two wheels.
Lake Country acted as a satellite station to Kelowna's Bike to Work and School Week activities and saw close to 40 people come out over two hours last Wednesday to get information on biking.
"We were definitely happy with the turnout, we had more than last year and we are hopefully going to build on that every year," said organizer Tanis Stolz. "It was all about trying to get people out cycling more around the community."
