Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon is making her way around B.C., visiting 150 schools and giving speeches as part of Canada’s 150th celebration.

“I think it’s a great opportunity to talk to the students and talk to them about Canada and what it means to be Canadian. I hope to make them aware and how important it is to become involved in the community at all levels (of government,)” said Guichon.

The Lieutenant Governor visited Chief Tomat Elementary, École KLO Middle and Raymer Elementary, Friday, Jan. 20.

Each school held an assembly as Guichon spoke with students about Canada’s constitutional monarchy, encouraged their participation in the nation’s democracy and shared ideas about a healthy and sustainable future for all.

“Very few people have any idea what the role of the Lieutenant Governor and the Governor General in our democracy is and our constitutional monarchy and how it works,” she said.

KLO Middle was the sixth’s school on the governor’s list.

The journey will end in June and she plans to visit three or four schools in each community, she said.
