Improving a child’s math skills is important.

OG Mathematics uses the five senses to do so.

Two workshops are available to educators and parents in the Okanagan.

On Mar 4, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 this three-hour workshop provides a brief overview of the Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching mathematics. Learning disabilities that affect math progress will also be discussed at the West Kelowna Okanagan Regional Library.

Participants will use manipulatives to explore patterning, various numeracy activities and solve basic addition questions. The emphasis is on step-by-step development of skills and teaching strategies that are beneficial to all learners.

A session is also available to educators on Feb. 24 at George Elliot Secondary School starting at 10:15 a.m.

The focus is on using visual auditory kinesthetic and tactile pathways, reducing the over-reliance on memory, and using a structured lesson plan.

Registration is required. Please contact ogmath@shaw.ca to register.
