A 71 year old Lake Country man, accused of growing marijuana, is back in police custody.
Lake Country RCMP executed a drug search warrant on Monday, March 7, at 4:45 p.m. at a residence in the 12,000 block of Lake Hill Drive.
Inside, police found 990 Marihuana Plants in various growth stages as well as a quantity of processed and packaged marijuana. A hydro electrical bypass was also found, along with an improperly stored Rifle.
Police arrested the man inside the residence, and took him to the Kelowna RCMP detachment in order to process him so he could be released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. The man refused to provide his name to police and would not cooperate with attempts to identify him.
The man's fingerprints were taken and sent off to be identified through the centralized fingerprint database in Ottawa. Eventually police learned his name, William Jones-Cook, and attempted to release him on the promise to appear in court. Jones-Cook refused to sign the document and further refused to acknowledge that he would appear in court at a later date.
Police had no choice but to keep him in custody. He appeared in court on Tuesday and was remanded to appear again today.
Jones-Cook will be facing charges of production of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and theft of hydro electricity. He is known to police for prior drug and criminal code offences.
