A name change is here for Kelowna’s task force on crime reduction.
It’s now the Mayor’s Task Force on Crime Reduction after several councillors noted they did not have input on the appointees.
“They’ve been assigned by yourself (mayor),” said Coun. Loyal Wooldridge. “I don’t really know the background of everybody. I’m sure you’ve picked great people.’
Coun. Mohini Singh said she expects the appointees will do an excellent job, however, agreed with Wooldridge on the name change.
“Just for us to be clear, this was not a council discussion, we didn’t put forward the names, but as Coun. Wooldridge said this is a mayor’s task force.”
Mayor Tom Dyas said he was fine with the name change.
“This came out of our priority setting and it was stated that it would be called the crime and community task force, so that’s why I followed that outline.”
The task force is currently made up of 13 members, including Dyas and Coun. Ron Cannan, from business organizations, justice and law enforcement representatives, and community outreach groups.
