Investigation continues for townhouse fire

Crews responded to fire near Gerstmar Road last night

At approximately 2:09 a.m. Kelowna Fire Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting smoke and fire coming from rear deck area of a multi-family building in 100 block of Gerstmar Road.

The first arriving fire truck found smoke and visible flame coming from a rear patio deck area.

Fire crews quickly isolated the fire to the exterior of one unit. Fire damage did extended to the exterior second story of the one unit almost into the roof/attic space.

The unit was vented by fire crews because of heavy smoke.

A male occupant was check over for minor burns and two children for smoke inhalation. None where taken to Kelowna General Hospital.

Emergency Support Services responded to the scene to take and look after the family of the unit.

Kelowna Fire and RCMP Fire Investigators will be on scene today to look for the cause.

Three engines, one rescue unit, and a safety and a command vehicle attended along with 16 personnel.
