UPDATE: The RCMP have temporarily closed Highway 97 southbound from College Way to Bailey Road due to extremely slippery and dangerous conditions.

"It is unknown at this time how long the closure will last," said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy.

"Road conditions across the North Okanagan are slippery and treacherous in places. RCMP are reminding the motoring public to drive to conditions if you must go out."

The RCMP are reminding drivers that it's still winter in the North Okanagan.

The roads Wednesday are snow covered and slippery.

"Drive according to weather conditions. Slow down and get to your destination safely," said Const Jocelyn Noseworthy.

A dump truck is on its side in the ditch, as well as  an ambulance, off Birnie Road near Highway 97. Another accident is also blocking traffic in the area.

Up in the BX, five or six cars have gone into the ditch on Herry Road.

"Even the four-wheel drives are stuck right now," said BX-Swan Lake Fire Chief Bill Wacey.

"We were slipping and sliding standing on the road.

"Avoid Herry Road at all costs."
