A violent fire ripped through a carport Monday morning just north of Fintry - destroying three cars.

North Westside Fire Rescue was called to the fire on the 300 block of Killarney Way just before 10 a.m. on Monday.

Lieutenant Graeme Headley says when crews arrived at the blaze in the Killiney Beach area, three cars were fully engulfed.

“There was flames shooting out of all the cars, the gas tanks were on fire,” says Headley.

“Three cars underneath the carport, the carport and the trees above the carport were on fire.”

He says the carport was not attached to any other structure which made fighting the blaze a little easier.

“It took us about 10 minutes to get the fire under control,” adds Headley.

Headley says the fire is currently under investigation and he could not definitively say if the fire was suspicious or not.

He says the homeowner has no idea what happened and was only alerted to the fire when he heard a loud bang.

“As far as we could tell there was nothing suspicious in nature, but the fact the cars burned in the snow is a little suspicious, we will investigate,” says Headley.

Unfortunately the property owner did not have insurance to cover the loss.

“The cars are a total write off. He had some nice cars under there,” adds Headley.
