An impaired driver lost control after speeding through the streets of Kelowna Thursday night.

Cst. Steve Holmes said the erratic driver lost control near UBCO and could now be facing charges.

“Just before 10:30 p.m. the 29-year-old Kelowna man was seen driving his Nissan sedan at speeds well in excess of the posted 80km/hr speed for the area,” said Holmes.

“According to witnesses, he hit a median in the highway then spun 180 degrees before his disabled car stopped.”

The man fled on foot after his vehicle would not start. but was located, with the assistance of witnesses, by police nearby. Holmes said he was detained by police after finding evidence of alcohol impairment.

The driver, who was uninjured, provided breath samples that were analyzed at nearly twice the legal limit.

“This incident clearly demonstrates the dangers of driving while impaired”, said Holmes.

“It was fortunate he only hit a median and not another vehicle or vehicles. The RCMP would like to thank those who assisted in this situation.”
