A 33 year old Alberta man has lost his truck for seven days and maybe longer after being clocked at nearly twice the posted limit Tuesday night.
On March 27, at 9 p.m., a RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services member observed a black Chevy Silverado traveling at over 170 km/h on Highway 97 just north of the Kelowna International Airport.
The posted limit for that area is 90 km/h.
Police stopped the vehicle and issued the driver a hefty fine along with a seven-day impound of his vehicle.
A small amount of marijuana was seized from the vehicle but the driver did not show any signs of impairment.
Due to the extremely dangerous speeds, police will be requesting an extension of the impound.
RCMP say speed can be deceptive. Although the driver may think they are "in control" of their vehicle, their reaction time remains the same at any speed.
Physics dictates that the faster you're going, the longer it will take you to stop.
The violation ticket for excessive speed is up to $483 plus a mandatory seven-day impound.
