Deadline extended for jobs

Stephen Fuhr, MP for Kelowna-Lake Country is alerting local employers that the deadline for the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) employer application period has been extended.

All not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses with up to 50 employees will now have until Feb. 3 to submit an application.

Applicants approved for funding will be able to hire students as early as April 2017.

The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience for full-time students aged 15 to 30 years old.

To get a greater number of Canadian youth working next summer during Canada’s 150th anniversary year, all not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with up to 50 employees can now apply for funding from the Government of Canada.

In Kelowna-Lake Country the priorities for 2017 funding include:

· Not-for-profit;

· skilled trades;

· agriculture;

· tourism and farm tourism;

· arts and culture;

· innovation and technology;

· small businesses of less than 20 full-time employees; and

· small businesses created in the past 2 years.

Employers are also invited to include applications that complement this year’s identified national priorities, which include:

· employers involved in the welcome and settlement of immigrants (including Syrian refugees) in Canada;

· employers that hire Indigenous people;

· opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Information, and Communications Technology (ICT);

· employers involved in activities celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation; and
