Cash needed to keep amenities

Besides its own internal financial situation, council and District staff are also considering the funding needs of several outside organizations this year. The Art Gallery, Chamber of Commerce and Heritage and Cultural Society (Lake Country Museum), have all submitted applications for an increase in the funding levels they currently receive from the District.

The Art Gallery is seeking an additional $10,000 to hire a part time curator. The position would pay for 40 hours worth of work for month, and additional hours would be contributed on a volunteer basis.

The curator would be responsible for planning and organizing exhibitions, reading and responding to artists proposals to show their work, researching artists, assisting in transportation of art work to and from the gallery and organizing special events like workshops and artist talks. Since the art gallery’s opening, the curator’s job has been a volunteer position.
