Doreen Velin was about to take lunch at her store, Cruzwear Unlimited when she heard a loud crash.

“I was very fortunate, I was in that room (lunchroom) 10 minutes prior showing a new staff member around… if she wasn’t there I would have been eating my lunch when it happened,” said Velin.

A car crashed through the back wall of her business on Bernard Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. Damaging two other vehicles, one was her daughter’s and the other was the new employee’s. The lunch table that Velin said she would have been sitting at, if it wasn’t for another employee, was hit.

“There were car lights in our lunchroom…It sounded like a bomb going off, a car went though the wall, all of our racking is on that wall, electrical system and security system,” said Velin.

Kelowna RCMP responded to the incident, the driver remained on scene and was identified as a 23-year-old Kelowna man. He was issued over $600 in fines for charges under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for allegedly driving without due care and attention and operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence.

RCMP do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Velin is hoping to stay open when construction begins to reconstruct the wall.
