Human-caused bush fire behind Lake Country house quickly doused

Fire broke out around 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, May 31

Update

The blaze found in The Lakes neighbourhood of Lake Country was quickly doused by the fire department on Wednesday night. The fire department stayed on scene for a couple hours to make sure the blaze wouldn’t reignite.

Lake Country Deputy Chief Brent Penner confirmed the blaze was human-caused. The blaze was found behind a house at the south end of Cliffstone Court and spread approximately 100 feet by 40 feet. The residents of the house were not home but were quickly notified. There was no damage to their house.

Penner also told Capital News that the blaze was spreading up the hill towards the house, but also down the hill because of the wind.

“It’s drier right now than it usually is,” said Penner. “The Okanagan Valley is drying out and with that, the risk for wildfire is getting higher.”

Three fire trucks, two fire commands vehicles, and two RCMP officers attended the scene.
