Lake Country firefighters helped to raise about $1,000 to go towards the Angel Awards, a talent showcase and competition that takes place at the Creekside Theatre June 25 in support of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis.

The firefighters held a car wash and barbecue on the weekend that put the spotlight on the Angel Awards, an incredible night of talent that, for the first time, is being held in Winfield, the home of the young lady who is the inspiration for the awards.

Lake Country's Louise Boisvert began the event to help her daughter Elise, who suffers from the debilitating disease.

"We really want people to come out to see the show," said Boisvert. "This is much more than a talent competition. There is professional entertainment and a 40-piece choir that will back up Elise for her song Warrior."

Among the entertainment will be the top 10 finalists from a local youth talent competition as well as many professional performers on stage including a special performance by the Angel Award dancers and a performance by Elise.

Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis is a painful disease that affects one in every 1,000 children.

There is more information about the Angel Awards online at www.angelaward.ca. Tickets for the event are $35.
