Alleged fraudster arrested

RCMP arrested a man this week in Glenmore following a multi-week fraud investigation.

Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey says the investigation began on Nov. 22, 2016 when Kelowna RCMP received report of theft on Flemish Street.

RCMP say a man allegedly stole items from inside a GMC pickup truck which had been parked overnight on the 1400 block of Flemish Street.

“The victim of the theft quickly learned that the 'tap' feature of his stolen credit card had been used twice before additional attempted transactions were declined by his financial institution,” says O'Donaghey.

“The police investigation revealed that the alleged suspect was successful in purchasing $150 in prepaid credit cards, among other items like life savers, a creamsicle and a yogurt drink.”

Video surveillance footage obtained by RCMP aided police in identifying their suspect – 39-year-old Patrick Casey of Kelowna.

On Jan. 1, 2017 O'Donaghey says officers received reliable information of their suspect’s current whereabouts and coordinated the arrest of Casey at a home in the Glenmore area.

“Casey has been charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000, two counts of fraudulent use of a credit card and one count of possession of property obtained by crime.”

Casey has been remanded into custody and is expected to reappear in court on Jan. 9.
