Plans are in the works for a new hotel next door to the Ramada Hotel at Harvey Avenue and Dilworth Drive.
The development proposal is to subdivide and create a separate property for a Marriott TownePlace Suites in the parking space west of the Ramada.
“The “hotel” will be designed with compact suites tailored to accommodate the demand for short-term rentals in Kelowna,” reads the application on the city’s website.
In December 2019, the Ramada received a development permit for an original plan to build a 12-storey mass timber tower that would have added 82-rooms.
Those plans changed in February 2022, when a new submission, Ramada Condo Development, was submitted to city hall.
The new design showed a longer, six-storey building. The plans included 160 new rooms and a one-storey parkade underneath the addition.
A Marriott TownePlace Suites was recently built in West Kelowna on Carrington Road, next to Two Eagles Golf Course.
