The Kelowna General Hospital Foundation is receiving over $2 million from a record-breaking fundraiser night.

Held at the KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence, the Heart of Gold gala brought in a total of $2,075,925, making it the most successful Heart of Gold gala ever.

Funds raised at the gala on Sept. 7 will help with the acquisition of cutting-edge surgical technologies to improve cancer survival rates and enhance patient recovery at KGH.

“The generosity demonstrated at this event never ceases to amaze and humble me,” said KGHF CEO Allison Young. “To see so many individuals collectively raise millions of dollars for people they may never meet, for services they may never use, it’s inspiring.”

"45% of us will face a cancer diagnosis in our lifetime,” said Dr. Josh Wiesenthal, Urologic Surgeon at KGH. “We are fortunate to live in an era of remarkable medical advancements that have the power to transform patient outcomes. Advanced diagnostics, technology, and surgical techniques will allow us to detect cancers earlier, perform more precise tumour removals, and significantly improve survival rates.”

The bi-annual gala has raised over $9 million for the foundation since it began 25 years ago.
