The Creekside Theatre in Winfield is holding an open mic event this week featuring reknown spoken word poet Chris Gilpin.
The Open Mic Coffee House writer’s slam is on Thursday May 30 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Gilpin is well-known in spoken word poetry circles, having won the nerd slam and erotica slam at the 2012 Vancouver International Poetry Festival. He is also a two-time member of the Vancouver Poetry Slam Team and the champion of Vancouver’s 2008 Haiku Death Match.
Among Gilpin’s other accomplishments: He was a finalist in the 2010 Write Bloody Press manuscript competition, the winner of the Vancouver’s 2009 CBC Poetry Face-off and the 2011 Vancouver Individual Poetry Slam Champion.
There is no admission for the event although offerings of generosity will go towards enhancing literacy in Lake Country.
