Curler's Corner: BRR Balls bonspiel up next at curling club

There was lots of great curling all weekend as well as dancing, socializing and friendship making.

Congratulations to the Ursel team, the winner of the A event in the annual Ladies Bonspiel at the Winfield Curling Club.

The B event went to the local Hunter foursome, and the C event was won by the Hindle group from Clearwater.

There was lots of great curling all weekend as well as dancing, socializing and friendship making. A very good time was had by all.

In between games we watched the Continental Cup taking place in Vegas with the North America team winning over the World team—now there was some great shot making.  Especially our Olympic contender Brad Jacobs—can that team curl. Awesome to watch in HD TV.

Next up at the club is the annual BRR Balls one day bonspiel with the local men’s ball teams curling once a year in a fun pre-season gathering, and they are pretty fun to watch. They do all their own cooking and organizing of this event so get your team in there if you haven’t already.

This year’s contact is John Schmidt so give him a call and get your foursome together.

The seniors at the club, who curl every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1 p.m., are also putting on their annual two-day bonspiel on the 4th and 5th of February. There are still spots left in this event so if you are over 50, you don’t want to miss out on this one. Give the club a call at 250-766-3318 or come out and join them during their drop in times—they never turn anyone away.

The Army and Navy league is having their inaugural bonspiel on the weekend of February 28 to March 2 and have spots available as well. So if you need a winter break, don’t go south, come down and register for one or all of these events cause you won’t be disappointed.

The men’s open bonspiel is on March 14 to 16 and is our final event of the year, so sign up for this last fun competition as spots go fast.

Hope everyone has a great week and good curling.
