UPDATE: Highway 1 reopens after multi-vehicle collision involving suspects wanted by RCMP

UPDATE: 9:00 a.m.

Highway 1 is reopened between Revelstoke and Golden following a multi-vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on March 24.

RCMP have confirmed that at the time of the collision the vehicle responsible for the incident was not being pursued by authorities.

Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden was closed for nearly 11 hours following the incident, leaving many travellers stranded both in communities and on the highway.

The RCMP are currently preparing a statement with more information on the details of the incident.

Estimated time of opening is 1:00 a.m. (PDT) on March 25.

UPDATE: 7:00 p.m.

At least four vehicles were involved in a collision that occured at approximately 3:30 p.m. in Rogers Pass near the Illecillewaet Campground east of Revelstoke.

Lines of semi-trailer trucks are lined up as the highway remains closed.

Emergency crews are currently on scene.
