Peachland native, Andrew Huculiak, is returning to his hometown with his tight-knit creative team to film their highly-anticipated second dramatic feature I’m Not a Bad Person.

The production is in prep now and goes to camera on August 15 through September 10. Open casting calls will begin this week.

The creative team for I’m Not a Bad Person is Huculiak who will direct, his brother Josh Huculiak who is the producer, their cousin Joe Schweers best friend Cayne McKenzie.

I’m Not a Bad Person is the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut feature, Violent, which was lauded by The Hollywood Reporter as “hurling a brick for Canadian newcomers.”

Violent was directed by Huculiak, drummer for the innovative Canadian progressive pop group We Are The City; was shot in Norway and sold out festival and theatrical screenings around the world. It was named the Best Canadian Feature Film at the Vancouver International Film Festival at that time and was in consideration for Canada’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards.

Having grown up in Peachland, Huculiak has close affinity with the town. He was Peachland’s Ambassador for 2006/2007, so championing local culture is not new to him.

“We aim to make a truly Canadian film and want to engage the community wherever possible,” said Huculiak.

Jon Summerland, Okanagan Film Commissioner, he thinks it’s great to have a film being shot in the Okanagan that will be putting the focus on a real BC town.

“These filmmakers plan to re-engage with their roots and immerse their team into the local atmosphere and then bring that to the big screen,” said Summerland in a press release.
