With a common goal of creating a healthy, strong generation of children, the YMCA of Okanagan has announced the line-up and activities for its 12th annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day.

This free-to-all event, being held on Sunday, May 7 inside and outside the Kelowna Family YMCA, will host dozens of local organizations looking to engage children of all ages in free, active play in a festival-like setting.

“At the YMCA of Okanagan, we believe healthy children are the foundation for a healthy community,” said Sharon Peterson, CEO of the YMCA of Okanagan.

“Yet only nine per cent of Canadian kids between the ages of 5 and 17 years old are getting the recommended levels of daily exercise. Healthy Kids Day is fun, but at its core the event strives to inspire everyone to participate in the development of a thriving generation of children.”

Healthy Kids Day, presented by Interior Savings Credit Union, will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7 and will include an entertainment stage, prizes, healthy barbeque from 12 to 3 p.m., and over 40 activity stations for kids to enjoy.

The event is free to the community, including access to the Kelowna Family Y pool and facilities, and is an opportunity for parents to collect resources for their family’s health while giving kids new ways to play.

“At Interior Savings we view an investment in healthy, active, confident kids as an investment in a vibrant future,” says Kathy Conway, CEO of Interior Savings.

“The Okanagan has so much to offer. This fun event is a great place to connect families with the resources many need to make health and wellness a priority in their daily life.”
